The Insta X3 360 camera: Two years in the making

Ever since its little brother, the X2, arrived on the scene, the Insta X3 360 camera has been in development. The result is an exceptional piece of kit. Despite weighing only 180g and being powered with a single 1800mAh battery, the Insta X3 360 packs a lot of punch.

Sure, this isn’t quite as capable as the latest GoPro cameras. But it provides a cost-effective, small-sized alternative that can be extremely easy to use. The 2.29” touchscreen is quite impressive, too. Sizeable but easy to use; this allows you to make the absolute most of the pair of 48MP ½” sensors included within.

Users can shoot up to 4K footage at 30 frames per second, which is a pretty decent compromise. However, it should be noted that 4K footage is not 360-degree: it uses a standard action camera FOV. Still, this means that the Insta X3 360 camera beats even the GoPro Max for clarity from one singular lens.

Out of all of the Insta360 cameras we have used, this is by far and away the most flexible and versatile. Thanks to the improved display on the screen, too, it is increasingly easy to adjust and manage your work. Editing footage is a piece of cake, too, with quick and simple editing for smaller clips a real piece of cake. Out of all of the handheld 360-degree cameras we have used, the Insta X3 360 camera is the best for built-in editing tools.

Our only real issue with the Insta X3 360 camera is that you can only view some clip types from the device itself. Also, video capture can take a moment to begin, so it is better to be pre-emptive rather than reactive when shooting.

Our Verdict

Overall, this is one of the best all-around action cameras we have come across. It can easily be mounted to various devices like your bike, or you can carry it in the palm of your hand and easily shoot high-quality video.

Thanks to the improved screen, easier editing and the addition of Active HDR, this is one of the most professional-like handheld 360-degree cameras you will find available today. With a very fair price point and the chance to shoot some highly impressive 5.7K footage at 360 degrees, this is a no-brainer for anyone looking to upgrade their 360-degree camera collection.
